Organic farming dependency on conventional seeds and propagation materials

The overall objective of workpackage 5 is to facilitate the reduction of the use of seeds and vegetative propagation materials from conventional sources in organic farming in Europe and to support the EU Commission in the further development of the organic seed regime.

More specifically workpackage 5 aims to:

  • To provide knowledge to overcome problems related to seed born diseases in cereals, legumes and vegetables

  • To provide knowledge to overcome problems related to selection of varieties with sufficient quality characteristics for organic farming

  • To develop decision criteria and recommendations for the derogation regime on seed and propagation materials in EEC Reg. 2092
